Mega Weekend Comparisons!

As you may know, I went to both Mega Weekend Chicago and Mega Weekend New York. As far as VS the card game is concerned, most people would agree that Mega Weekend Chicago was FAR superior only because the Product was there and EVERYONE got something for each tournament they entered. Besides the advertised EAs for participating, I received a shirt and a deck tin (and if I didn’t drop out of one of the events, I would be another shirt richer).

Granted the stuff wasn’t there and Alex had to make due but I just don’t think Finishing move is a good participation prize for silver constructed. That’s just me. Also the winner of one draft did not receive a prize. Also, there as no lunch break. There should have been one each day.

Either in spite of or because of all these issues, I zoned out of VS and played more casually and talked to people a lot more. In fact, I was among the last people to go each of the three days. I preferred the environment tremendously. I liked being the photographer (I even banged my head on the wall twice to get a shot, but nobody saw that, right?). I like to shoot people…

Anyway, I still had a ton of fun and got to know people I would not have otherwise. Would I have liked my EA have a blast? Hells yeah. But first thing is first. I’m still waiting for my EA Doc. Ock’s and WAFF’s to come in the mail from a year ago (I should have spent my points on something else).

Fire in the disco, fire in the taco bell

The heat from the Mega Weekend leaves New York as people are probably prepping for worlds. Yesterday I recall

• Telling people to go to the Met. to see the Superhero exhibit.
• Cliff yelling “THAT PENIS SUIT!” or something to that effect with something about dry humping shortly after. [Sometimes it's best to just tune out and eat your sammage]
• Running LOA for modern and forgetting to add two key cards (and making two really bad plays)
• Explaining the ‘Destrucity’ of Ultimate Warrior which included but was not limited to his name (Legally changed to Warrior), and him being scared of Heath Ledger Fan Girls…
• Camera: traditional doesn’t exist.
• A Bill of rights/congress man prank.
• Trying to get rid of my MUN-099 Life Model Decoy for something decent. It’s killer in sealed but I think it’s trash in constructed.
• People thinking I was press again (that happened at Chicago and a few cons). Maybe I should make a badge involving something such as Bad Press, Daily Planet, Early Edition… Now to find all those cards…
• Eating during the event.

Pictures will be up as soon as I can find my Compact Flash card reader. I have a feeling it’s at the rent’s house. Worst case I’ll I have to use a computer with it built in like last time. Lastly, I have a few MUN cards I’m selling. Spare cash for my trip would be great so I would like to get rid of the lot, but will accept individual offers if they seem fair.

Mega Weekend New York, What Happened Friday….

If you are reading this today, Saturday, chances are I am still at the Mega Weekend and playing MUN sealed. Yesterday however I drafted twice. For those of you (like me) who have never, ever touched the set. Wow. It’s so freaking powerful. The two drop doctor strange is amazing! (I managed to rally two cards every time I recruited him), Cable with the built in bodyslide SUPER STALLS, She-hulk is a monster (she was ALWAYS ahead of the curve). Man, I can go on for hours…. This was all in my second draft. Each game I drew my entire deck that second draft with very LARGE Stat’d characters. I need to grab ahold of the Spider woman with the built in Only Human!

Anyway, enough with the excitement, I did manage to take a few pictures that day, and they might be up Monday. Also, if you are planning to go to worlds, or just want certain cards, I am selling everything in my trade section (not in red) as I will be in London from the 20th of this month until the 4th of July and could use the extra cash. This includes a Black Manta from DCL (which I haven’t put up yet). Again, it will be updated MONDAY for sure.

Future Foes, A Future Threat?

When DCL was printed and I got my shiny box, I was disappointed on how the League of Assassins were done for that set alone. Before you start yelling at me “How could you say that?!11one!!11!!!11!!BBQBACON!1?/!!?!1!?!!,” I think they are a fun and great team, they just need help from other sets. So what we got was a few different themes. The most peculiar was Opposing characters get -1/-1. I don’t see how that fits with them, but hey it looked fun.

Sure, they were always a little all over the place, this time it felt more-so than before. Pulling a Demon’s Quarter’s and a foil Harsh Judgment reinforced this idea when reading about cards like David Cain or Ra’s Al Ghul, Demon’s Head rising. I however being a major fan of the League of Assassins since DOR quickly build a League deck. I was asking everyone for the MVL locations since I knew they were going to do something cool. Grabbing all that is necessary for a ‘replacement factory’ and had something pretty mean within two weeks after the set release.

But back to point. I still however was just looking at these two other cards. It hit me then, upon opening those packs, that there was something fun in the future foes and looked good. Maybe, was this was their bass ackwards legacy? Could this make the Foes Deadly?

Still, without the cards available I know what I needed that IS essential to the deck:

4x Ra’s al Ghul <> Leland McCauley, U.P. President (no cost)
4x Ra’s al Ghul, Demon’s Head Rising (five drop)
4x Demon’s Quarters
4x Harsh Judgment
4x New And Improved

It’s bothered me since the release of the set. Future Foes and League Of Assassins. Of course that should work. Discard to get the no cost Ra’s out, Demon’s Quarters a character, harsh judgement, pop him off to new and improved. Another discard for another Ra’s free drop, pop him to New And Improved and recruit the five drop. Two pops is resonable, correct? I mean, dual affiliated characters help, right? It’s turn five, that seems realistic… But they don’t have drawing power.

So the question is, how do we make this work? There are some cards that add extra cards in hand. Do they need a third team up? I really don’t know. With enemy rotated out, IG looks like a good idea, on three, time trapper and secret files works wonders, but is it worth it? I really don’t know. I just want to see this in action.

Casual Friday: FCBD Reminder

Last weekend, I was unable to make the new york comic con due to prior engagements, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying other comic book stuff! Next week Saturday is Free Comic Book day. This is an event that has taken place once a year for the past six or seven years. It’s a good way to get some favorites, or even pick up a new title you normally would not read.

Check out your local Comic Book store to see if they participate! HeroClix tends to give away free clx usually related to movies. Maybe one day a free VS card will be available to get the word out. Free stuff is always fun! Have a great weekend!
