I’m taking a short break on cheap decks today to show a combo I haven’t spotted online yet. In fact, I’m surprised people don’t think twice about trading this card and it usually gets highly underrated. Combos are easiest in silver age and it’s not devastating enough to warrant anything of major concern (yet), but it’s something I wouldn’t be surprised to see at Mega Weekend New York; especially since there is a golden age event on Friday (imagine cosmic radiation on him as well as other activated abilities). Perhaps someone might decide to show how destructive this could be but it would be with different combos. Anyway, here’s the gist of it on how to ‘break’ Dr. Light in Silver Age.
So what is it? Well for silver age, we need to know the two cards. It’s DR. Light, Blinding Flash + Leslie Thompkin’s Clinic.
The first thing we should do is look at what each card does.
Activate >>> Each player may put a character card with cost 2 or less from his hand into play. At the start of the recovery phase this turn, KO those characters. Use only once per turn and only during the build phase.
—===VS===—
The part that matters: Activate >>> Target stunned character you control cannot be KO’d during the recovery phase this turn.
Acording to the rules: Cannot > CAN
- Ok, it’s a dumbed down version of some rule, and this is where I’d put a picture, but I’d rather not. But, back to point: We now have one initial set up for this character, what can we use to make it better? Well any two drop will do, but one with evasion would work best with the combo. stunning for board advantage. Unless your up against Superman, Metropolis Marvel, it’s usually good to have more dudes to do stuff.
Anyway, since Dr. Light is injustice gang, their search card allows for any affiliated character. We could also go for a team that has cards that stun characters, but let’s keep it simpler for now. This is just brain storming time. What seems worth it?
Card Draw?- Black Cat- Evade – Draw – Discard; Karl Ruprecht Kroenen – Army Dude – Evade, Peter Merkel <> Ragdol – Evade, return character, discard
Defense? – Beast – Backup – -2+2
Negation/Tech ?- LEECH – discard- negate payment power, Tar Baby – Evade, remove target card from game.
Or just getting someone out there?
Heck, we can even get further characters out if need be. You know, Tommy, that ‘free dude’ (who’s soon going into a different age).
Then again with all these new cards popping all through out VSrealms, as much as I respect the past, maybe we should move on to the future. It’s soon to be the present, and I like new things. I’m favoring one of these previews: Jessica Drew<>Spiderwoman. The common: MUN-097.
We get to avoid the discard because we won’t be recruiting! Not only that, no stun damage! Hella awesome and wIthout physically holding cards it’s even more inspiring! This is of course if you want extra characters on your field. With their equpment card that was previewed a few weeks ago, things seem rather promising. Then again, you don’t even have to go that route. The crime lords seem great so far without any help.
But with MUN having a plethora of team-ups, their guys bounce off the field and there are plenty of search cards, readying effects might seem like the thing to do. It is Injustice Gang, they have one rather neat search already. And it is Crime Lords, the team from this set I’ve been waiting for. They also have one hell of a team up in the new set (reveal, everyone’s a crime lord. WOO!), a remove from game card that exhausts a guy, and card draw with reinforcement galore. Since we do have other characters, even a team-up with MTU’s Marvel Defenders for the readying effects looks rather doable at the moment. Maybe I’m just over ambitious or maybe, just maybe substituting in characters is going to upset a lot of people…
